NicheIt grows in North America and oftenly develop on fallen or dead trees. It gets it common name Chicken mushroom or Chicken of the woods due to fact that it tastes like chicken. This mushroom is very complex. It knows when to send up fruiting bodies, which is the orange colored polypores, when light comes from above. This characteristic is known as photomorphogenesis, plant life that is controled by light. It also senses the stimuli of the tree alowing it to grow out away from the tree. It gets its nutrients by breaking down the dead trees which ultimately creates a better nutritious soil. Its predators are unknown besides mushroom hunters and humans. This mushroom is edible but only if it is growing on hardwoods not conifers because of sanitary reasons.
